Hi Guys my CPU appears to be running a little warm I am running the i7 920 not overclocked and im using the Noctua NH-U12P cooler my cpu ideals at 47c and when under full load via prime 95 it heats up to 70 but then I stopped it before it went up any more.

I am using MX-2 thermal paste

thanks guys

Is your cooler secured properly? Check to make sure, also with the thermal paste, you just require a rice grain sized blob on the middle of the cpu and the pressure of the cooler will spread it out, using too much paste can result in higher temps.

How did you apply the tim? And what case/cooling are using. Also ambient n room temps will help. It's just so we can see what the ideal temps should be :)

yes my cooler is on correctly. I have only used a grain sized blob on it ive also resit the cooler twice to ensure it was its on correctly.

also I have all case fans on max

thanks

Don't forget its very hot at the moment, and this effects everybody not just you, l would have let P95 run, to see what your temps ended up at. The CPU will throttle down if it reachs 90'c, your cooler might be seated properly after all, if your room temp is 26'c you can expect high temps.

FT02 cracking case, has good cooling.

100C is the point at which thermal protection sets in, so I would assume anything lower than it is "safe", 70C certainly isn't anything to worry about.

i7's seem to have more accurate sensors than most other CPU's on the market, Intel should just deduct 30C from any reading to stop people worrying. :p

70c seems hot at stock. Try using a little more thermal paste, have you taken the plastic sticker off the bottom of the cooler?

All of the screws have been tightened until they will not turn any more?

When you re-seated the cooler, how was the contact/thermal paste spread? Was it over the entire chip?

hi ive just redone the thermal paste again using the line method this time and so far still the same maybe a little cooler but only by 1-2c so a little improvement.

and the cpu was covered by the paste.

thanks

Are you at stock? or OCing?
I use same cooler, clocked to 3.2 and temps are lower than your both idle and load.

Idle temps with the noctua will not be the most impressive, it really handles itself when it comes to OCing and full load temps.

You have both fans attached correct so they are in push-pull?
What direction are you blowing the air?

yes i am at stock and i do have the fans in a push pull configuration. my case is a Silverstone FT02 so all the air gets pulled from the bottom and pushed out the top so the air flow is ok

thanks

Then I'd recheck your backboard and the main mounting.
Does it feel rock solid when all is tightened?
I use same cooler and my 3.2(20% OC) temps are better than your idle.

You're not using the fan connector which have capacitors thus making the stock fan speed slower than its max?

yes I did have access to another cooler a few days ago I gave that a try but it ran even hotter which I was surprised because that was a corsair h50 but I no longer has access to it any more. and sadly I don't have another i7 chip at the moment thinking of getting a i7 930 i know its not much of an upgrade but it may fix my heat problems if it does then it could mean that this chip is faulty

thanks

Mines always run fairly hot too, RealTemp is saying 60C at the moment idleish - the whole case does need a hoovering tho.

Also using a H50 push pull, case is a FT01 and the ambient is pretty high.
