Hey everyone, I just built my first PC but I think there's a problem.. my CPU seems to be running rather hot. I'm using an Noctua NH-UP12.. not overclocking and all bios options are currently at defaults. The CPU also seems to be hugely underclocked?

Any input would be great.. thanks.

x12 => energy saving feature is active, it will return to 2.66ghz (or 2.8 if turbo is on) under load

It is running warmish for idle, but you have not told us ambients so we have no way of knowing. More important are laod temperatures, so run prime95 or intel burn test through it and note what the temperatures reach.

Over 90 is considered bad, if you're getting that at stock you probably need to remount the heatsink

So this is the result:

I have noticed that my bedroom is pretty hot tonight so I guess that doesn't help.

Do you think I have room to OC my CPU? I was planning to... buying that particular cooler and all :)

Yeah, 61 is good. Noctua have done well with that one, you've got a reasonable amount of thermal headroom there

Especially since you're running at stock voltage, not the minimum required to be stable at stock speeds :)

Thanks! It's good to know it's all working then :) Had no problems at all with this, and seeing as it's my first time... I'm pretty suprised! xD
