I7 runnning too hot ??

Hello, I recently put together an intel core I7 Z68 system with an h70 liquid cooler im getting Idle temps of 40 and on prime 95 at 100% i get 99c, in the bios the pump is running at 100% all the time, its in a push/ pull configuration, I have tried to reseat it I have also removed and reapplied thermal paste it has made no difference so what i tried was to try the stock cooler that also is running idle at 40c can someone helpp please ??

P.s everysthing is at clock settings and speeds no overclock has been done.

Its definitly making contact with the cpu isnt it, as in the the TIM is smudged out all over it when you have removed the cooler?

It is possible to use too much TIM.

Make sure that you don't have capacitors in the way of the cooler. My H80 had the same issue on my old LGA775 setup, I had to rotate the heatsink 90c clockwise in order for it to fit correctly.

but no i dont have that problem with the EATX sized mobo the capacitors are nowhere near it

How tight have you got the screws? Sometimes to much causes odd temps, and obviously too little would give bad results.

Another thing is how is it connected? Does it have a fan header AND a molex? Both should be connected at the same time.

Have you removed the cover on the pump? Thats if there is one.

The h70 only has a 3 pin to power the pump, I hadnt tightend it too much and it wasnt loose as it was snug.

What RPM is the pump reporting? It should be in the 1400RPM region.

Sounds like a dead pump to me, do the H70's give a fan rpm readout from the 3pin to signify pump speed?

It also shouldn't reach 99c, sandy's throttle or shutdown at 98c...

Peas vary quite a bit in size, you really only need a small amount, the size of a grain of rice (yes I know they vary too). I tend to use a thermal grease these days which is very easy to get a nice thin coating.

yh the pump in the bios says it is at 1430 rpm and when i removed the cpu coolere the second time the TIM was spread out evenly

i dno but the LED temps on my mobo showed 99 and so did it on real temp

Have you tried other temp reading software? Like CoreTemp, Speedfan of HWMonitor?

i just now downloaded HW monitor and it says im getting 40c on Core#1

that too goes to 99c but ryt now i have the stock fan on but i hear still under 100% load it shudnt go nowhere past 75c or 85c
