Hi,

I need (well technically my friend) your professional expertise :)

My friend wants to build a PC which will be used for work (programming), Photoshop and design work.
So tools like Adobe CS and AutoCad will be used.
He wants to PC to last a good 5 years at least, and maybe overclock when he sees it's getting a bit on!

CPU - Intel Core i7 4770k Haswell
Mobo - Asus Z87-Plus
RAM - 16GB (2x8GB) Corsair Vengeance Pro 1866MHz
SSD - Samsung 840 Pro 256GB
HDD - 2TB Western Digital Green 3.5" 7200rpm
PSU - Corsair RM 850W
GFX - later on (in a month or 2)
OS - Windows 7 Professional 64-bit OEM

Some notes:
  • RAM - He wants Corsair
  • Power Supply - Corsair, Seasonic or Be Quiet

Regarding PSU - Not sure if 850W is a lot or 750W is enough, keeping in mind that something like a NVIDIA GTX 780 will be added later on.

Could you tell me if the components are good together or if anything needs to be changed?

Thanks :)

750W is more than enough for a single GPU. Seasonic is your best bet but I can't say I've heard anything bad about Be Quiet. I installed one for a friend and they are definitely quiet!

Any particular reason your going with a green HDD?

No reason for the Green HDD, but since there is the SSD, the HDD will be for music, videos, pictures, etc.. So I figured I don't need a high performance one? Or am I wrong?

Not at all. I have a green drive with a SSD and you'd never know to be honest. But I had my reasons for going with green (noise reasons), if noise isn't an issue then why not go for the blue/black WD or one of the Seagates? You might as well!

I'd go with Doomed's spec... Although, personally I would go for another CPU cooler as itl be quieter and better for the CPU in the long run, especially if he wished to OC in the future. By doing it now, it removes the need to have the hassle of replacing it down the line! Something relatively cheap like:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Raijintek EreBoss High Performance CPU Cooler £26.99
Total : £36.59 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Will make a difference.

Also, the EVO is cheaper with little performance difference to the pro.

Will take into consideration the CPU cooler..

However RAM has to be corsair.
Also, between the EVO and the Pro, he'd rather get the Pro.
Regarding the PSU, it needs to be modular and preferably Corsair / Seasonic.

Im just giving you an alternitive that i would take.

If he want to stick to his list of 'requirements' thats upto him.

I just provided a cheaper option that will perform Just as well as his list..

Thanks!

Well he always had corsair RAM so he wants to stick with it, so to speak. The RAM and PSU will be sourced locally (not UK) and it's easier to find Corsair than other brands.
Regarding the SSD I think he read reviews saying the Pro is better than the EVO and the money difference is not much to him, so might as well go with the Pro.

If it's for a single GPU, then 550W is more than enough, and if you want a fully modular PSU that is either Corsair or Seasonic then I would recommend this:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Corsair RM Series RM 550 '80+ Gold' 550W Power Supply (CP-9020053-UK) £73.99
Total : £83.59 (includes shipping : £8.00).

It's on sale as well :)

Can I ask why he prefers the Pro and the Corsair RAM?

The Seasonic G Series is better than the Corsair.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Seasonic G series 550w '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £74.99
Total : £84.59 (includes shipping : £8.00).
