Hey guys,

I'm looking to swap out the current bulldozer system that I'm running (FX-6100, MSI 890FXA-GD65) and replace it with a core i7 system purely cause I really cannot stand the lag that I get in gaming anymore and its giving me grief. I've seen micro stutter, this is even worse thanks to the damn FX not having the bandwidth to do anything meaningful even though in virtualisation its fantastic :(

I really haven't had much experience of Intel's offerings since the 486DX2-66 (yeah that long ago!) so I'd like some advice on a motherboard/CPU combo for the above tasks. I'd say I wanna spend no more than £500 which should get me near the top of the i7 tree :)

The rest of the system components I already have, which are (ignore sig, haven't updated it):

NZXT Phantom Case
Corsair H60 cooler
Corsair 4x4 DDR3-1600 RAM;
Asus 6970 DirectCU II 2gb GFX;
2x Samsung 830 256gb SSD

So yeah I'd appreciate the input .. I've already taken a look at the workstation Pro bundle offered by OCUK however I'm unsure about the Extreme4 mobo considering that they used to be rubbish even though I keep reading that they're now high up the pecking order.

Am not really worried about whether its SB or IB as I'm going to OC it anyway :)

Cheers

+1, can't go wrong with Gigabyte mobo's as well as having a UK RMA centre...

If you want you can add on £10 and get the retail cpu, this will give you a 3 year warranty as opposed to a 1 year warranty as well as the cpu cooler, but you have on already so that's not important really. Saying that, the cpu is probably on of the least likely components to fail in your whole build so an OEM cpu shouldn't really be an issue, it's up to you though :)
