Lo all, im a nats chuff away from buying a i7 oc bundle now before i part with my £600 im a little worried about the temps the intel site say max temp 69c but loads of people inc the guys at o/c are happy for these to run in the 80c what did i miss surly intel said 70 odd for reason? Sorry if its silly i trying to get as much info as i can can really. Cant find a good reason anywhere that say yeah 80c is fine and your chip wont melt into your mobo in 2 yrs :p

when you max out the load on all cores it will get up into the high 70's 80's without decent cooling.

This is to see teh thresholds of the chip for the purpose of the overclock.

In normal daily use your not likely to max out all 4 cores for any sustained period.

My 920 for example at 3.6 hovers around the high 30's low 40's during normal use/gaming

My 920 runs 77c under full 100% load, after four hours. That's only a little higher than the Intel recommendation and it never gets that hot in daily use, so it doesn't worry me :)

Just turn Turbo off and overclock manually, if you get an Asus P6T Deluxe you can select the higher turbo multiplier anyway with the latest BIOS.

My chip hits 80-90C under load at 3.8GHz (HT on) and it's never skipped a heartbeat in all the time I've had it, in fact it's by far the most stable CPU I've ever owned.

This i7 doesn't seem any hotter than my previous C2Q so I suspect they just have a more accurate sensor or that Intel tweaked it to deter overclockers, I've seen my CPU hit 95C still stable running Prime95 and there's people reported there's going over 100C still stable, very strange.

whats your cooler reflux, im very impressed by this Nero cooler on mine.

Water mate :)

hmm do they not throttle down at 80c with turbo mode on? i will set my i7 to crunch pretty much all day so load temps are going to be important for me.

Turbo mode is off because it won't boot with it on (probably a lack of voltage?). It throttled down when it got to 90c the other day - forgot to connect the second fan to my radiator :D

Reflux- i get those same temps, maybe even 2c less than you @ 3.77ghz on air cooler (coolermaster v8). It took some time last night (just got my cooler), but in prime 95 running for an hour, I never hit 80c. I did hit 78, and thought it was going to hit 80c, but never did.

Before I had my vcore to 1.225 and I was hitting 82-83c in prime95. Lowered it to 1.18 and now it never 80. We are talking core temps as opposed to overall cpu temps right? my overall cpu temp idles at 34c and max's at 60is in prime95.

btw-running VERY stable even at such a low vcore. Anyone else have an explanation for that? It just doesn't seem like it should be so stable. I also have ht on and turbo mode.

Are you sure its stable, one hour is not very long? I can also the same with my set up and run for an hour however am yet to see it run overnight like that.
