So do all i7s allow the use of fast memory in your mobo?
I read something today that made me think twice.

Basically I'm wanting 8gb of 2100mhz RAM, so what i7 should I get?
All, or only specific ones?

The 2nd part to this is what i7 should I get for a budget of about 150 quids? :)

Cheers

All LGA 2011 are rated for 1600mhz, but they'll be fine running at higher speeds. What do you usually do on the PC? To be honest with the quad channel, I don't really see the point going for more than 1600mhz.

Unless you're benching the real world gains from fast RAM is...negligible :D
X79 seems to benefit more from faster memory, the 1155s dont seem to that much, but the IB IMC is better.

I just bought an i5 3570k (£150) and the samsung green memory 8gb (£40) to go with it.

I have to say it's great memory I just put it in selected 1866mhz 1.5v and away it went :)

I heard some people get 2400mhz on 1.5v but haven't tried anything higher yet myself.

There is literally 1-2fps gain in games from getting 2100mhz over 1600mhz, don't waste your money!

There's a thread been posted recently comparing memory at all difference speeds, take a look :).

The memory is so cheap now though why not get good stuff?

an extra £10 for 1-2fps don't seem that bad to me.

I have the same memory and processor, i've heard and read good things. When i learn to overclock hopefully i'll get some good results.

Thanks for all the replies.

In regards to what I'm going to use it for.... not much :D
But you know every couple of years I get an itch to build something awesome for no goddamn reason.

So anyway, the mobo I chose is socket 1155 and the mem is rated at 2133mhz (It's so cheap, why the hell not)

So basically what people are saying is that any i7 can be used to these extreme speeds if overclocked?

I've got that and had it running 2133Mhz at 1.4v for a while but never noticed anything and I've currently got it at 1600Mhz on 1.3v to save the leccy.
