Intel Core i9-12900K Qualification Sample benchmark results
According to OneRaichu, a qualification sample of Intel Core i9-12900K processor is already faster than AMD Ryzen 9 5950X in both single and multi-core benchmarks in the popular Cinebench R20 software. However, one should be aware that the CPU will consume a lot of power.

Bear in mind this is an engineering sample, so retail samples will further extend Intel's lead over AMD, in both ST and MT.

Power consumption will be high, though similar to Nvidia's 3080, 3090's, the majority don't care, just as long as it's the fastest :)

I'm a strong believer in competition being good for us consumers, so would welcome a return to form from Intel... but a chip that's not out for several months beating a cheap that's been out since last year (notwithstanding supply issues) doesn't exactly signal that does it?

It will be closely followed by Raptor Lake (13th gen), which will up core count, improved process and up performance across the board

Raptor has looked like the one to have for months now, plus DDR5 should have shed some of the premium by then.

+26% Single threaded, i'm impressed, but its hard to say how much of this is down to architecture or DDR5.

And over 200 Watts, tho i guess we are used to Intel CPU's being power hogs.

Zen 3D will be out shortly after with a 15% IPC gain, and late next year Zen 4 with a substantial IPC gain on top of that.

Competition is good, hopefully it will result in price wars :)

Oh yay, you're back.

Here we go again. I'm not sure I've got the energy for 5 threads a week on Intel's next gen chips and then the endless goalpost moving when they turn out to be a disappointing turd like the 11900K (AKA Dave2150's ultimate gaming CPU).

Exactly - I've never understood people's blind devotion to any corporation, be it Intel, AMD, Nvidia, coke, pepsi etc etc that only exist to sell you stuff. My only loyalty where my money is concerned is to me (and maybe my cat).

How can they further extend?, they haven't caught up in MT yet, not even close  , and as for ST barley in the lead for an astronomical increase power consumption and heat. Really do hope the 12900k will be a nice boost in ST, it has to be if they want to keep up with AMD, certainly no match in MT unless they increase the core count passed 8. And please Intel work on the ridiculous power consumption.

Didn't take long for Dave to get out from under the wood work.

And while Alder lake looks promising, Dave once again is spewing lies

We need it to be decent, otherwise AMD will start jacking up prices even more, like it did in the Athlon 64 era. We need both companies to push each other,to maximise what we as end users get for our money.

I bet you wish you'd held out another generation now. :p

Nope, needed a new CPU for the games I play, wasn't prepared to wait.

That said, I have more disposible income thanks to a new job, so will likely jump on a DDR5 platform to play around sooner than later :)
