Woosh?2700x. Done.
Just saying too all those that find the 9900k too expensive now have the option to go AMD, it's a great feeling although nVidia now need a run for their money.Woosh?
I wanted the fastest. Was sad to see the price at what it was. I was addicted to pc's very early on and in my teens would spend £500 on a new cpu and it was a lot more often then. These days I have more disposable income and no other vice. As sad as I was to see the 9series prices, it only equates to about £5 per week since my last cpu upgrade. That's the way I look at it. Would rather it was cheaper, but in the end my addiction to computers and the latest tech is a lot cheaper than many things that brought me joy in the past and present. Minus travel, this computers trump the lot.
Edit* I would not recommend at this price to my friends.
Dg, i'm curious at the point where you could no longer justify the price increase. If a new processor came out tomorrow and offered 3% more frames at 1080p for £700, would you consider buying it? What about one that was £800 and offered 5% higher frames @ 1080p? 6.5% @ £900?
There must be a point where value/dimishing returns comes into the equation. If you had millions in the bank I might understand always being able to justify going for the best performance part but price/performance and total cost are the most important considerations people will make when buying components.
I'm not sure what resolution you game at but as you want the latest and greatest i'm assuming you have or intend to buy 2080 Ti? The performance gains moving to a 2080Ti SLI configuration can be quite pronounced at 1440p/4k. Is this something else you're considering and if not, why not?
Genuine question. Is it possible to stop seeing the posts of a particular user? Just saying... been 3 weeks of the same posts day in day out all day long. horrendous.
They are irreversibly hurting their company image IMO. For a quick extra buck. Amazed they think it's good business practice. Target driven sales by the looks of it. OCUK can't compete with rainforest's clout so have to be seen as the "good guys" to survive in the industry. This really doesn't help with that. They would do much better long term to say "£500 - SOLD OUT" than to abusively milk their loyal base for a few extra quid.I see OCUK have now adjusted the pricing better to reflect the amazingness of this CPU, only £659 now for the retail boxed version, a true bargain for those that desire such a beast!

Have to agree, I realise they are a business and are in it to make money but for once people should have just said nope not going to bother putting it up for sale and maybe if enough people did it a message would have gotten across. All it's really done is force me to go to other places to source my IT stuff. They are irreversibly hurting their company image IMO. For a quick extra buck. Alas. I'm not going to tell them how to suck eggs. they can do what they want but have gone way down in my estimation.
AMD also has a pretentious box but you don't get an option which makes it clear you're paying the price of a lesser CPU for the privilege.
It's not just a box. It's a SEALED box. and a guarantee that the last people to see it / handle it / use it were Intel themselves.£60 for a box is a horrible deal.
The 3 vs 1 year warranty I see as irrelevant. It's a CPU, if it's not dead on arrival what's going to go wrong with it.

Are you talking about the TR CPU's? If so they are available in tray/OEM also, without all that horrid plastic packing. If you are talking about the standard Ryzen parts, they come in a cardboard box which is pretty run of the mill.
i just consider whats needed for what i want cost isnt the issue. i have numerous rigs. when you can comfortably play at 4k 144fps with no drops that will be next. 2700x is a great budget cpu but for gaming and 1080 it gets beat in literally every game at 1080 by a £150 i5. so these people go on about value yet the £150 i5 beats it in everygame. as lambchop says its a shame you cant just buy whatever you want without all the fanboyism. the only reason for amd cpus to be brought is for multithreaded stuff. gaming is owned by intel. the thing is for like legend says i game at 4k so you would save even more by getting the i5 8400 and a better card. just makes no sense on here.
I don't ONLY game at 4K, I require a multithreaded CPU for work purposes. It's not a case of 'budget', it's a case of NOT WASTING MONEY, and having one system that does everything I need and want suits me perfectly, as it does most people. You don't seem to understand that. For someone gaming at 1080p, there's never been any debate the 9900K is the fastest, but it's also the most expensive and not remotely within the reach of the vast majority, as those gaming at 1080p are on the tightest budgets, as surveys clearly show. Nevermind the fact that using a £600 CPU for nothing but gaming at 1080p is ridiculous overkill to the extreme! The 9900k won't even be on their radar, and for others like myself who are at 4K, and don't want to throw money down the toilet, it's seen for exactly what it is... overpriced and completely unnecessary. This has absolutely nothing to do with 'fanboyism'... it's called common sense.
I don't doubt it's possible to get OEM AMD CPUs I've simply never seen them offered alongside the retail boxes unlike Intel CPUs which seem to regularly have an OEM option.
We get it. But your post ignores others circumstances. To some it's not throwing away money and they can easily afford it. It's not overkill when it's a drop in the ocean to people money wise. There's plenty of people on the forum like this. The debates you mention are almost all utterly pointless anyway including your own as you comment without knowing anyones financial situation so instead apply your own set of averages as to what is affordable or not. That's fine, but those averages you've set don't necessarily apply to the people you're arguing with.
No, wasting money is wasting money. What you're talking about is someone's RESPECT for money. Whether they can afford it or not is entirely besides the point. I could easily afford a 9900K if I wanted one, so it's not about my financial circumstances.
Of course it's about finances. It's not about respect as your level of respect is totally different to someone who earns double or more than what you do. To them it's not a waste as they have far more disposable income. The AMD crowd just don't seem to follow the fastest piece of technology being argued about surprisingly isn't value for money.
I guess enough people are still buying at these prices to make it worth their while. For me, I just view OcUK as a great forum which sometimes offers good deals on older kit which has stable stock levels. But for anything else, you will most likely (and quite easily) find better deals elsewhere. Once you expect and accept that is the case, you can just enjoy the forums and forget about the retail arm. They would do much better long term to say "£500 - SOLD OUT" than to abusively milk their loyal base for a few extra quid.
