Ibiza as a solo 'old' person?

Has anyone been to Ibiza or similar places on their own? Basically I have a few weeks off between jobs, so am toying with the idea of going somewhere for a few days. I like late 90s/early00s trance music and have always fancied going to Ibiza but it's never really come about. I'd probably go exploring a bit too rather than just sit on my own at the beach.

I'm in my early 40s and married so not really the typical 18-30 demographic. Part of me thinks I'd just be a bit out of place, I have more charisma now than I did in my 20s but even so perhaps it's more likely that strangers would laugh at me rather than laugh with me :)
On the other hand, there's potentially others like me that enjoyed the music scene 20-25 years ago, maybe they used to go to the island etc, people just wanting to go and have a good time who happen to be a bit older.

Whether I could convince my wife this is a good idea or not is another matter but before even broaching the subject it would be good to hear from anyone who has done something similar. Trying to organise to go there with friends I can't see going anywhere as there's not many into that music scene plus family/work commitments etc etc.

Ha - I can just imagine telling the wife I'm off to Ibiza for a couple of weeks on my own without her.

Good luck with that. :p
Would be a long weekend or something, no way I'd get away with a couple of weeks :) To be honest, I'd probably get a bit lonely on my own if I stayed that long anyway. At festivals I've wandered off on my own for many hours but always had friends back at camp or meeting up for specific bands etc.

Yeah you'd definitely look out of place.

I'm in my thirties and went for a few days for a stag and it just felt like you were somewhere with a load of children. It's incredible that you just seem to hit an age wall and then anyone above that age no longer goes.
The way I see it, as I was thinking earlier when hanging out the washing (rock and roll), if it's an age problem, then by definition the best time to go is now, because I get older every day (maybe if I dyed or shaved my hair I'd take a couple of years off appearance wise). I might go and find it crap / awkward but at least I'll have done it and not be sat here in my 50s thinking "damn, wish I'd gone 10 years ago".

Why not take your wife?
We have two young children, if we took them I wouldn't be able to enjoy the nightlife properly. It's not really her scene anyway, she'll walk in the kitchen and say "Alexa, turn this crap off" when I'm listening to Dance Anthems or whatever :)

What's the time scale - could got to an outdoor Music festival like Nice in July ?
I've got about 3 weeks but a couple of other commitments to work around in between. I'd considered getting a day ticket to IOW festival but the 01:30 Ferry back is fully booked already.
Rock Werchter in a couple of weeks might be feasible but the lineup isn't quite as incredible as it has been in the past.... it's sold out but there are some on resale... maybe I should look into it. But my worry is it still won't scratch the Ibiza itch, I've done plenty of festivals / gigs.

Not having some kind of midlife crisis are you?
You know, despite me historically considering that to be a myth, it's not completely beyond the realms of possibility. I quit my job without another one to go to about 2.5 years ago and am still searching for job satisfaction in what I've done since (it's like, I'm quite good at what I do, and I earn reasonable money from it, but really I'd rather be doing something else). I'm a bit of a late bloomer though, I didn't go to my first proper festival until I was 30. Most of my clubbing was done after I left uni. I'm still now interested in the stuff teenagers are interested in like music and drinking and gaming and football etc. Basically it's like I was mature for my age as a teen and in my 20s, but my maturity isn't moving on, so now my age is overtaking my maturity level instead of lagging behind like it used to (if that makes sense?).
Would it not feel safe going on your own, if something was to happen to you , who would be there to support you?
It's not really something I think about, I mean nobody is there to support me when I'm commuting to work either.
Have you looked at solo holidays with certain travel agents?

(example: https://www.trailfinders.com/holiday-styles/solo-touring or https://www.explore.co.uk/experiences/holidays-for-solo-travellers or https://www.intrepidtravel.com/uk/about/solo-travel)

They get loads of random solo travelers into a group and go somewhere cool.

At least that way you will not be on your own
I think that's what I'd do if I was single and wanting to travel. I like the concept in general because everyone is in the same boat so should be easier to get chatting the people rather than them staying in their individual groups. But this is more about wanting to tick something specific off the bucket list rather than just a desire to have a random holiday.

I'm 45 and am getting the itch to go out to a classic trance or similar event somewhere. I just missed one down at the old Opera House in Boscombe. Trouble is not sure I'd last the whole night, I'm perpetually tired due to work / young children / life. If you want to do Ibiza do it, does it really matter what anyone else thinks? Go there and enjoy the tunes! I never did do it, wish I did but it'd be tricky now as I have young family running around my feet. I'd be happy for a night out to a classic trance event or one where Thrillseekers will be playing a set.
Ironically I was actually at the Opera House on Saturday (for a non-dance gig)! First time I've been in nearly 20 years, used to go there quite a bit back when £10 (later upped to £15) got you a wristband for free drinks all night. If you want to just do a night out I'd highly recommend Rhythm of the 90s, they are a live band playing classic 90s dance, a 2hr set from them is just absolutely relentless and the fact it is live rather than a DJ really adds to the atmosphere and engagement.

Regarding the type of music I'm aware that there it would need careful planning and I might be better off going to a specialised event in the UK, however it's not purely about the specific music, just the general vibe, weather, exploring the island, holiday vibes speaking to randoms (for whatever reason it is 10x easier striking up a conversation with a Brit on holiday than a Brit in a pub back home). I do enjoy some more modern dance music too.
