EDIT: Thought I would add this at the start, the thread is not very descriptive but anyway, idea is. What is your idea of a holiday?

This is a genuine question, I hope I do not offend anyone who does this but...

Every single year I see people on Facebook post the same status at the same time every single year. It normally goes a long the lines of "yass, ibiza here we come".

These messages seem to go on every day until they eventually **** off to the country.

I do not understand the logic in paying £1000+ to go abroad, go to a club (which we have here) to get drunk (which cost a fortune).

Is this your idea of a holiday away?

My idea of a holiday is going somewhere cool to explore, like Egypt or Rome, hell even Iceland for ice cave exploration. Don't get me wrong, a pint won't go amiss but I would never go on holiday purely just to drink and listen to terrible music.

You said it in the last bit there

I would never go on holiday purely to just drink and listen to terrible music. Ibizi has been famed as a clubbers holiday destination. If you don't like dance music why would you even contemplate going. The clue in your friends facebook statuses might hint that they appreciate the music and the array of stds they'll inevitably pick up also. I wouldn't get too upset about it really.

Well the simple answer is you don't understand going somewhere you have never even been to and then try to justify this by comparing it to your local ritzy nightclub which couldn't be further from the truth.

Probably because it's warmer and the DJs/clubs are miles better.

Maybe some people like it:rolleyes:

Yeah but still, that was just my dig at modern music :p

My point still stands, I could never justify spending £1000+ to go away, get smashed and not remember half the weekend.

You can do that here for £75 and it all ends the same, sore head and a puke bucket lol.

There are parts of Ibiza that are very pleasant and family orientated.

I very much doubt the holiday would cost £1,000+, I have spec'd Ibiza holidays for circa £500 p/p in the summer holidays. Outside of the summer holidays would be dirt cheap. That is All Inclusive, too, so I'm not sure what you're going on about.

I do also prefer going to a destination that I can learn from and enjoy the time off work with my partner, in decent weather.

But I'd never knock anyone else for going clubbing abroad and having a good time. I.e. plenty of shagging.

I am not trying to justify it by comparing it to a nightclub where I am, I am justifying it by the stupid amount of money people spend to go away and do the exact same thing you can do here, for 15x the price.

My idea of going away on holiday is to see new things, explore, bike/dive with sharks ANYTHING that I have not done before.

I just don't see the point in going to the same place multiple times per year to literally drink yourself stupid.

It's not all about overpriced clubs and stds... mostly but not all...

I've been 4 times and last time it was for a wedding. We went to a couple of the clubs but didn't spend a fortune and stayed in one of the quieter parts.

I guess in a similar vein I don't understand why you would want to pay £1000+ to go skiing/snowboarding.

Each to their own I suppose. If you've never been you probably won't understand. Although saying that, I find some people big it up more than others and then you get the inevitable bunch who post 'oh its **** now, back in the day it was sooooo much better' yeah whatever.

Fair enough, like I said in first post I am not having a go at anyone and each to their own.

Going there for a wedding would be cool, that is unique doing that.

Been there twice when I was younger. When I was 18 and 21, wouldn't go there again. But they, its a place for the typical British lads holiday. "Lets get smashed, pull birds this and pull birds that"

This is pretty simpy explained by them having a different definition of what makes a good holiday. Your definition of a "good" holiday may well be branded as boring by others. Also no you can't compare clubbing in the UK for £75 to a trip to clubbing in Ibiza, worlds apart mate.

I got back from Ibiza on Saturday. 4th year in a row.

Ibiza is amazing - The atmosphere, the music, the experience. The whole place is brilliant.

Some people do go and just end up down the west end of San Antonio getting ****ed and listening to crappy chart music, but really if you want to do that you should just go somewhere like Malia or Zante.

I did Ibiza just to check it off my list.

Amnesia was way too crowded to enjoy, but Space (back when they did daytime) was amazing.

Wouldn't bother going back though, way better VFM clubbing holiday options in other parts of Europe.

Well, that's where you're wrong, you simply don't get the same clubs / experience here (presuming you're based in the UK).

I don't remember many clubs in the UK allowing me to dance on the sun-drenched beaches surrounded by beautiful European women, good tunes and good vibes.

Would you never bike, dive, see the same place twice? ever? even though you could see, experience different parts or get more from that second, third, fourth visit?

I went for the 1st time last year. It was for a wedding - but went clubbing - though I was driving so didn't drink. However, to be honest, you don't need to drink to enjoy yourself there. It's not all drugged out people and drunk Brits as I was fearing, however we were there at the start of the season. Where we were staying was much more family oriented - I believe there are some parts which are more Brit-centric, and louder, less pleasant.

I didn't think I'd enjoy it, as I'm not really into clubbing any more and I'm not a big drinker, however, it left a good impression on me, the old town is beautiful too, and it's a lovely little island. It's not all full on clubbing.

I wouldn't choose to go there for a relaxing holiday, as I can escape to Cyprus to my own property there to disappear from the world.

I similarly don't understand people who spend £1,000s to go to somewhere as exciting and amazing as the Caribbean for example, Cuba, and spend all their time in a resort, and never get to explore the island or have an adventure and see, breathe and live the culture, and just sit in the hotel for 2 weeks. You might as well go to Europe and save yourself the money.

Everybody wants different things from holidays. I love going on "action" holidays, where I'm doing activities, like sailing, mountain biking, rock climbing, skiing, skydiving, motorbike road trip etc... However, I also love, disappearing in a new world, absorb the culture, see the sites, eat the foods, and try and disappear into a new world, become "one" with the area, rather than trying to be a tourist.

Both appeal to me greatly, as does disappearing to somewhere quiet either in the UK or abroad, and just read a book, go for walks, and sit by the pool/sea.

Which is why I try to go on at least 3-4 holidays a year to do a bit of all of that. :)

Everybody has different tastes. :)

Think Freefaller hit the nail on the head - everybody is different!

My typical idea of a holiday is visiting a different country, exploring local cultures, trying different foods, etc. However, sometimes you want something else depending on circumstances. After 2 weeks in Mexico several years back doing the all inclusive malarkey I said I'd never do it again. But I went to Cape Verde in May - one week of doing absolutely nothing but relaxing, all inclusive, in one hotel - and it was perfect after two of the most stressful years of my life without a single holiday.

I'd also go to Ibiza even though my clubbing days are well behind me! I've never been before, and I'd like to do the clubs and explore the island which is meant to be stunning (plus I'm 28, need to do it before I'm past it... :D).

I'm in my 30s and went clubbing in Ibiza, sober, and I don't do drugs, and I had a blast. Leaving the club at 8am hunting for breakfast is quite a fun feeling, especially when you can go and lie down by the beach. :)

A group of my friends and I were planning on going to a greek island or similar mainly to chill, do some stuff and have a few drinks. The planning fell through and then it was just decided "**** it, we're going to Ibiza".

Consequently, I am no longer going on holiday this year. Well, not with that group :P. Similarly to the OP I don't see the value in just getting mashed and going clubbing. I'd prefer a mix of relaxation and activity based holidays.

Well you do actually understand why they do this, you just wanted to point out that you are different and perhaps more cultured.

Maybe they like going to a sunny country and meeting new people who are exactly like them. I don't buy a football season ticket for £££ and stand in the rain watching men kick a ball around, but I can see why some people do and what enjoyment they get from it.

As for taste in music, more people listen to Bieber than whatever music you happen to like :)
