IBM HS20 Blade Servers

Hi All,

Looking for some assistance. I'm trying to find what processors are compatable with an HS20 (8843) Blade Server.

I know the server is Socket 604, but I'm specifcally looking to see if it supports any CPU's with Intel-VT on them, as the majority don't seem to.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

doesn't look like it, appears to support 103watt cpu's so that's single core Nocona cpu's as far as I can see....

I don't think more modern CPUs are supported.

Best to ask IBM (Don't forget to ask about BIOS updates for VT-x capability).

There is reference to VT support in the BIOS in this page from IBM, is your HS20 the same type?

No that's different model 7981, mine are model 8843

Looking at the BIOS release for your system, there has never been an update to enable VT in the BIOS, probably due to the age of the machine and upgrade options.

I've got a Poweredge 1850 from that time. The VT enabled cpu's weren't compatible until the last revisions. I reckon you're in the same boat, they were quite different cpu's.

Yeah gonna see if I can get hold of some cheap HS21's for what I need.
