I am thinking of buying 2 second hand 42u IBM server cabinets for our new office. Do I have to be careful with these? What I am asking is... will there be any problems with mounting none IBM equipment and accessorises like shelves? Has IBM got square mounting holes as standard.

Thanks

You should be fine mounting non-IBM kit in the standard 42U rack. They have the normal square holes that take cage nuts.
The only thing you might have to do is adjust the length of the slide rails but that should be easy.
I've had more experience of mounting IBM kit in non-IBM racks than vice versa but have put Cisco and Brocade switches in with no problems.
