iBook G4 ram help

I’m trying to fix an iBook G4 for a friend. It keep freezing and very rarely makes it to the desktop. I’m almost sure that it’s the built in ram that’s the problem.

I can’t get into the system long enough to run mem test and i cant boot from CD, it always freezes. I ran FSCK which came back ok.

I want to know if its possible to disable the built in ram and only use the second ram expansion under the keyboard.

Short answer is no.

is that not what FSCK is for. I thought it checked for HD damage. But i could be wrong ive never tried to fix a mac before

FSCK - File System Consistency Check. Basically the *nix version of chkdsk.

Will attempt to fix invalid files on the disk.
Won't resurrect a drive with hardware faults.

Pretty much redundant on modern macs as they use a Journalled filing system that can heal itself.
