iBook Sync real quick question

I am struggling to find an answer for this but I wonder if this is possible.

Lets say I have downloaded a book or PDF to my iPad via Itunes.

Is it possible to sync the book to my iPhone over the wire?

Or

Do I need to manually add the book to the iPhone first?

I have tried adding an ebook just to the ipad but it refuses to sync to the iPhone.

Under Settings -> iBooks all settings are enabled.

iCloud is also enabled.

it states to check to see if iBooks is listed under iCloud, I can't see it.

as a work around,

I've added the books to both devices via iTunes.

They now syncing in terms of remembering what page I'm on. which is cool. I was hoping to just add a book to one device and it would sync to the other.

Hey ho. If anyone has managed the above I would like to know how.
