I've been trying to link my 14' iBook to my philips TV without sucess. :(

The Ibook comes with a mini-DVI to VGA adapter but the philips only has DVI , component and scart inputs. I'd hoped to use a dvi to vga adapter (the type you get with a gfx card) to connect 2 cables together and go with that. except the DVI converter doesnt fit?

Any ideas how I can do this?

Have a look for the "Apple Mini DVI to DVI Adapter" - Apple sell it for around £15. You may be able to search around and find adapters which do the same job for less, without the Apple branding :)

However, I thought the G4 iBooks could only do mirroring over video out, and you couldn't gain any desktop real estate with the external monitor?

Cheers Al Vallario, but I appear to be talking rubbish. The iBook has a mini VGA out, not DVI as I thought. So I guess I need to go vga -> one of scart/s-video/DVI. Any ideas on this?

I'm actually using this to watch video files on my TV in the bedroom, the Philips TV in the lounge is fine as it has VGA in.

In that case you'll need the "Apple Video Adaptor," also around £15 from Apple. The official description is a bit vague; I believe the adapter gives you ports to put an svideo or composite cable in, but you need to buy the svideo/composite cable separately :)
