IBT and prime95 read really different temps?

As everyone will know iv been trying to sort out my 4.2 and 4.3ghz overclocks on my 4670k ( other threads can be deleted by mods, and im sorry for being a problem) but IBT After 20 runs has top core temp as 81c on IBT high settings.

on prime 95 however after 20 mins small ffts im getting max core of 67c, hour in blend is 68c tops.

Idles after half hour at 41c tops averaging 30to 35.

This is on the 4.2ghz

I don't know the ambient room temp as i have nothing to check it with, its quite hot tho and outside temp is 18c.

The settings are as follows:

42 cpu ratio

40 ring ratio

Vccin: 1.860

Vcore: 1.200

Ring voltage: 1.125

Its on fixed mode running all cores, not dynamic.

I know iv been a pain in the backside but can someone please answer this and confirm my temps are now ok?

Many thanks and apologies

looks normal for fixed cpu v

it will still downclock at idle in volts/speed if you enable all the c states rather than leaving them on auto in the bios, and set to balanced power profile in windows power saving options

ibt will always get cpu hotter than prime95

Thanks, just everyone has been saying its way high and i should try and reseat the cooler etc, its a cooler master seiden 120xl Aio water cooler :)

Just what i was about say.

IBT gets the CPU to max tempuature.

Prime focuses on stability.

Thats why most people suggest using them both as then you know its stable and the highest temp.

Thanks so at 81 ibt i haven't really got anything to worry about? As photoshop, chrome, itunes and a game is the maximum workload id ever put on it :)

And sorry but what are all the c states called? IM newbie and know that eist and cie are disabled when in in fixed mode tho :/

They are different software programs and so will indeed cause different temps.

Prime 95 is a mathematical program that just happens to be used by overclockers because it puts the CPU (or ram etc dependent on setting) under stress. It has not set out to be a CPU stress program as such.

IBT is a program intentionally designed to stress the cpu as much as possible and so causes the CPU to get hotter.

In reality, your cpu is never likely to reach the temps caused by either program under normal gaming use and so just be used as indicators of stability.

IBT and Prime 95 just really a complete waste of time!!! Silicon torture time wasting non- sense!! use your pc to test stability not this garbage, your temps running every day stuff will be fine.

Thanks, this is what i was looking for :) started getting worried, iv just put c-state to enabled and c1e to enabled and while its idle it downclocks to 4.1 which is right? There's also "package c state limit" and it says the power saving level from high to low is c7s, c7, c6, c3 c2 then c0, there is also a no limit option, i want it on no limit so it downcloxks loads when idle ?

Also i have laketiny which apparently enhances dynamic LO load adjusted performance for accelerating the ssd speed, enable this too?

its good just to find where you are in total cpu load temps though

then just play games or use pc as normal

^^^ Best stability test of your system for your uses :)

:) iv enabled cie and c1e do i put c state limit to no limit? And what about tiny lake do i enable it?

So with c states enabled my system downclocks when not doing anything then upclocks to the 4.2ghz i set when in use?

New system builds look awesome btw :)

Just leave core temp minimized while you go about your normal use. Then you can see top temps when you leave applications.

This! Initially when I got my 4770K used AIDA64, rock solid for over 2 hours stress testing but when encoding a Blu Ray, crashed after 3 hours. Similar story with BF3! Leave IBT and Prime95 well alone and just use your system like you would normally to test for stability.

just enable c1e, eist,intel speedstep,c6/c7/c3/c6

true,i do that anyway I just like to see where I am at full 100% load temps, but I only do 5 runs ibt for that, normal use won't tax the cpu half as much

Thanks :) need help with this c state and tinylake business now then its finished .

Eist is greyed out i cant click it and for the c states i just have a "package c state limit" not seperate boxes for each "the powers saving level from high to low is c7s, c 7,c6, c3,c2 then c 0" so i put it on c7s?
