Does anyone here know which is the more painkilling effect from either of these? I've been taking nurofen plus which is 200mg Ibuprofen with 12.8mg codeine. They've been working really effectively (better than paracetamol) for killing severe pain on my tongue (2 day old biopsy wound). The box says take only for 3 days beyond which it can cause addiction. I finished a box of 12 since wednesday night and rang my doctor who assures me it's fine to continue taking them if it helps with the pain, she said they're just being over cautious.

So a box of 12 nurofen plus is £2.99. I'm not too bothered, but I was wondering if taking regular ibuprofen (very cheap to buy) without the codeine would be effective enough or maybe it's the codeine that makes the difference?

Sounds suspiciously like a medical related question...

Speak to your local chemist. They'll be able to advise you.

Yeah, I appreciate it's one of those medical questions that I probably shouldn't be asking on here. Was just interested in having a general idea of what does what out of both those drugs. The chemist recommended nurofen plus though, so I've probably answered my own question. I might buy some ibuprofen by itself though and if it doesn't work well enough, go back to the ones with codeine.
