IC Diamond Periphelion Ceramic Thermal Compound Mini Review

Well I got my freebie from OCUK, so I feel obliged to give you all a mini review.

Test System Specs

The system

AMD Phenom II 955 (4 GHz @ 1.45v)
4 GB Geil Value DDR3 1333MHz
Asus M4A785TD-V Evo
Nvidia 8800GT (Akasa Vortexx Neo)
Antec 300

Watercooling

XSPC Dual bay pump reservoir combo
XSPC Delta V3 water block
XSPC RS120 Radiator
Ek Coolstream XT240 Radiator
3xXilence Redwing on radiators (120mm)
Akasa Junior Fan controller

Testing and Methodology

I will be testing the IC Diamond Periphelion against Akaka’s AK-455 TIM.

For testing load temperatures the CPU will be loaded with Prime95 (Large FFT) and the GPU with the Folding@home client for 30 mins, I will note the max temperature. Allow the system to idle for 30 mins then repeat twice to ensure accuracy and take and average, idle temps will also be noted at the end of each 30 min cooling period.
The fans will be turned down to their minimum RPM and the tests repeated. The IC Periphelion was also give a 2 hours of curing time as the AK-455 had been applied around a month ago on the test system.

Conclusion

IC Diamond Periphelion is a great budget performer beating the Akasa Ak-455 by a good margin in both tests. The paste can be a little difficult to get out of the tube due to its high viscosity. IC Periphelion is certainly the king of budget pastes.

i am getting the IC Diamond 24-Carat Thermal Compound today and if the peripehlion knocks off that amount of temperature i can not wait to see what 24-carat does!!

The AK-455 is a better comparison for the Periphelion as they're both aimed at budget use rather than pure performance. However I may order some MX-3 and AS5 in a couple of weeks and do a proper TIM round up.

The diamond should yield another couple degrees drop to what I have seen with periphelion.

Spelled Perihelion

Nice review, and more or less dovetails with recent/first Perihelion giveaway results just completed this week in Germany.

We (IC) had no input on this giveaway as it was a raffle kind of a contest, end users received the compound, filled in a test result form and returned their result and the group as a whole did not know other users results until the giveaway was nearly complete.

Large variety of compounds, A few GPU tests an XBOX and a laptop also. 86 Tests in all so a nice benchmark for comparisons
