I want a basic CPU IC like electronics ones like this but obviously far more pins.

I want to make something like this:

I want to make a little comp obviously incredibly ambitious but I want to have a go. The reason for this is I want to make something 17's era with all discrete components. Thanks

EDIT: I say Linux but I thought nearly impossible so just some code or summit like DOS with a screen interface too!!

not going to happen.
ICs work at a few HZ and don't process the same way as linux needs (like x86 or x64 or ARM, PPC etc)
anything with enough power to do anything (even command line) would be a 8086 and that looks mostly the same as a i7 apart from size and pins.
 
Is there a possibility I could get hold of one and use that instead? Although I wanted to avoid the socket as we know it.
 
think a few places still sell 8086s but you're gonna have issues running anything on it.
maybe an archive of some OS but it's not gonna wanna do anything other than move files etc.
no network at a guess
better off with a 286 or 386 as min as then you can run DR DOS and have games etc.
maybe try and find a spectrum, iirc you can still buy kits to build them.

Discrete components means ICs are out of the question. This is not realistic.

I don't mean to sound rude, but it doesn't sound like you have the expertise for this.

If you want to build a simple PC look into Pico ITX. If you want some simple, easy digital electronics fun, look into the Arduino project.
