Goood afternoon

I am in impulse buy mood and wish to upgrade the headunit and speakers in my clio, but I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to what's good and what isn't.

Just been out to measure and want 4x5.25'' and a headunit of playing MP3 cds at the very least (seems most have this option nowdays).

I don't want to spend a great deal, was contemplating just buying speakers but I doubt the standard headunit is much good, budget is probably £150-200, but obviously less is better!

The standard speakers appear to be made by blaupunkt and have a connector into them, is this a standard fitment nowadays or will I have to get out the cutters?

Errm, hope I haven't been too vague, thanks in advance!

£200 for Hu and speakers? id save up for a bit longer mate, semi decent speakers will cost £60-70 and a decent HU is likely to be £200 alone.

Marques to look out for on the HU front are Alpine and pioneer,Blaupunkt are good SQ units too.

Speakers, well the worlds your lobster tbh.

Have a look here www.talkaudio.co.uk and www.caraudiodirect.com

What car is it?

Well I'm no audiophile, I just want something better than my current setup (not hard!)

My car is a MK3 clio, as standard its got an MP3 cd player, 4x15w speakers and 2 tweeters of unknown quantity!

Like I said I'm no expert on this so a 70quid headunit and a 300quid one look very similar to me, just with more inputs/outputs and brighter lights :p

One thing that has come to mind is that I always use the stalk controls on the steering wheel, would only certain brands be compatible with an adapter to make these work?

Erm there is a vast difference in quality dude, i can apreciate you arent an audiophile, but the best way to start is with the source, you can take this from car to car and it can last years and years.

On a budget i would go fo a Pioneer deh65 BT, it has Bluetooth built in, and is £169 or a Blaupunkt Casablanca which has a 40gb HD @ £189.

You will have to buy a stalk adaptor if you want to retain the use of the steering remote.
