The Z3 came with a Becker Grand Prix 7990, which is quite a nice piece of kit.
However, instead of it being hooked up to the CD Change in the boot, it's got an iPod adapter in the glovebox.

I assumed they just unplugged the CD change and added the AUX cable.
So I bought some radio keys off ebay and had a little root around for the CD Changer cable, but to no avail :(

The iPod connector is a proper Becker one, but I just want to use the Changer as I don't have an iPod :(

Short of buying an iPod, is there an adapter I can stick on the end?
I can't understand why there's no cable from the Changer though

Doesn't the becker play mp3s anyway?

I'd get an ipod and not bother with the cd changer. Thats what I'm going to do with mine.

It does play MP3 CDs, but that's not the point.
I'm not spending £150 on another MP3 player I neither want nor need.
And certainly not on one that will live in the glovebox. If the Shuffle had that output then perhaps I'd be interested.

In an ideal world, I'd be able to hook up the CD Changer. Where the **** has this cable gone?

I ended up at that conclusion, but then I would have to control the MP3 player myself, and I wouldn't get the track names on the screen.
No thanks.

You wont be able to control or see what songs are playing via AUX... This is one of the reasons Apple 30-pin cable is superior. Your head unit will be able to actually read the ipods library and control it via the 30pin.. An AUX will simple send audio.

which MP3 player did you have in mind ?

There isnt an open standard, it will be manufacturer (of the mp3 player) specific.

You could use the aux input, so audio playback only, so no track names on screen, no control from the headunit etc..

Or you go with the sort of standard you've already got. But its apple specific, as the other brands arent nearly as popular, cables for other makes arent nearly as easy to come by.

Either buy an ipod, so you can control from the headunit and have song names on the display etc.. or do without.

Yep this is one of the main reasons I bought an iPod (that, and storage space), so I could use it in the car and have all my music at my fingertips

I've got a few lying around at home, but it doesn't matter what I use as I want it all integrated.

Stop being a tight wad and buy an i pod :)
I have a few MP3 players, but I've never bought anything Apple out of principle.

Yes, I understand why it's awesome, but I've got a CD Changer and I want to use it
I even got BMW to order a new cassette as it didn't come with one. (This now makes sense why)
I didn't pay for it, but that's not the point :p

I've just forked out lots for an Eisenmann, and it needs a new radiator fan, along with some other little fixes under the bonnet (tensioner/aux belt maybe) so I really don't want to ***** another few hundred on something, that whilst awesome, will spend 98% of its life in my glovebox.
Might just buy a Nano, but even then that's £150! Why doesn't the Shuffle come with the 30-pin plug

Sell the CD changer, should cover the cost :p
That's not a bad idea, but it's an absolute pig of a job to remove the CD changer as all the plastic is interlocked. You have to remove all the trim up to and including the B pillars. So **** that :p

What's confusing is that there's no cable behind the dash
I don't want to start pulling things I can't see though, but it might be down there somewhere..

according to this the CD changer part was an either / or job

Guessing that as the owner used the ipod connector it doesnt have one.

The car originally came with the BMW Business radio, with BMW CD changer (for which I still have the radio code and serial numbers)
The changer's still in the boot, and I can see 2 cables running out of it.
The iPod connector goes directly from the glovebox to the back of the Becker unit using the cable in the image in the first post.
So what they did was unplug the CD changer and use the Becker iPod lead.

What I want to know is where the cable from the boot has gone. I just don't want to start rooting around behind the centre console as I can't see what I'm doing and I don't want to break anything.

Dont think what your proposting will work.

Gonna have to find the CD changer lead thats no doubt dropped down behind the trim :(

Phone camera and a torch would be my bet

Stick your hand down there and take a photo :) (with a torch to light it up obviously)
