Icewind Dale 1 and Fallout 1

They're epic, but it depends on how you feel about old games. Both have immense replayability and are pretty huge games - try going through Fallout without killing anything, it's quite possible :).

Both are excellent, Icewind Dale is essentially a hack and slash dungeon game. Fallout is top notch RPG game with a cracking story.

Fallout is epic, fallout 2 is a bit better than one though just because of engine improvements and for being a slightly bigger game.

but one is still very good, just don't be put off by little niggles.

oh yeah and deadbeat is right, fallout 1&2 are perfectly possible to play purely non violent (but you can also be non violent but still have thousands of people killed by others/security systems by using speech or technical skills) :p

I only played Fallout 1 for the first time last year, and I still thought it was a fantastic game.

Be prepared to persevere through the start though. Until you get the hang of it, it feels very aimless for a while - you don't really know where to go and what to do, you have no money, and most enemies can kill you as soon as look at you. Once you get a few levels in you, and a few missions to do, the game becomes so much better.

I really should finish Fallout 2. I barely started it.

Admittedly, Fallout 3 is the reason I discovered the old Fallouts. When it first came out I thought FO3 was great. Then I played Fallout 1 & 2... and subsequently didn't think even remotely so highly of FO3 anymore :p New Vegas, tho, generally does far better justice to the originals, imho.

I almost considered uninstalling before barely even getting started, when killing the rats outside the Vault :o Glad I stuck with it, because it really does 'bloom' into an amazing experience.

Damn right you should! If you haven't heard about it, be sure to try killap's Restoration Project, preferrably for your second playthrough so as to better appreciate what it does. It's a must-have for Fallout 2 now for me.
