icewind dale 2 party size question

Hi ive just started playing this, im just wondering if having less members in your party enemys scale accordingly also things like XP, i hate playing with a big party prefer just a few members i can specialise in.

I found it easier with a party of 4 spellcasters than a traditional party of 6 including melee.

Less people = more XP per person per kill, until it becomes trivial and stops giving XP.

Think I had necro,illusionist,cleric,druid. They kicked ass.
 
ah ok cheers, 4 sounds like a better size tbh, im finding it quite hard actually, i dont know these d&d rules lol.

AE fire spells makes things a lot easier :) When you get a spellcaster who can cast level 3 spells (fireball!), things become easier. IWD2 likes to throw you up against hordes of creatures at a time.

It's quite a bit harder than Baldur's Gate. It's more a min/maxer's game, I think.

Hmm are there any games like this you can play solo? Guess diablo 2 is similar but i tried playing it on my new pc but the widescreen mod kept crashing it, icewind dale 2 was running at 1024x768 natively which is fine on my laptop, but planescape torment the widescreen mod just crashed it :(

or can you have a solo party in this or maybe just two people and play it ok?

Only if you know what you're doing. 4 is good number, or even 3, to start with.

Dungeon Siege can be played solo, and there's plenty of games like Diablo around (Torchlight, et al). Witcher is played solo - I didn't like it but plenty did.

So yes, there's plenty of solo RPGs.

3rd ed was a bit retarded in that it cost the same XP to add a 10th level of wizard as it did to add a 1st level of fighter....

Not true, 1st levels often give special abilities that are exclusive for some classes. It's often worth mixing them and most power builds in DnD world are multi-classes. XP penalty can be a pain in the ass though.

On the subject, a "standard" party in DnD consists of 4 members of different classes - usually a warrior (or any hybrid that can do tanking), a cleric (or druid, or paladin), a rogue and a spellcaster. There's plenty of hybrids though that can do many roles and most parties with 4 or more members should be able to complete the game :)
