Currently use google apps for own domain, and have contacts and calendar syncing from there.

Since iCloud I can see apple offer the same service, but don't really see the advantage of me moving my contacts and cal (i cant move email anyway as apple doesnt support personal domains).

Anyone shed any light on pro's con's of switching contacts/calendar or not?

(PS. I know about the other iCloud services ...photo stream etc, and will be using those... but not sure icloud email, contacts and cal will work for me).

Don't you need to have a .me account for iCloud email? so unless you forward everything it wouldn't work would it? I've not really looked at it to be honest, despite being a heavy Mac user, iCloud doesn't offer anything useful to me... My calendars are on Google because that's my main email address, and any files I want shared/access to I stick on Dropbox manually.

I use iCloud to sync contacts, calenders, reminders and bookmarks between my iPhone and iPad. And to perform backups of each.

I can't sync Emails or Notes, as both require a .me account. But then again all my e-mail accounts (Hotmail/Gmail) are downloaded/updated via exchange servers. And I can sync my notes with gmail.

There isn't any benefit for contact/calendar sync via iCloud rather than Gmail exchange. It's just I never used Gmail sync so iCloud was an 'obvious' choice.

I also think it's not possible to use Gmail & iCloud contact sync at the same time, but I don't have any info on that.
