iCloud question (for dummies)

Hi,

An Apple idiot here so please forgive my basic question.

I've had an iphonemfor ages, set up to my yahoo mail account - works fine.

I purchased an ipad last week and enabled iCloud, which is brilliant for contacts, calender etc.

In the mail section, I now have one iCloud account and inbox showing, but still use yahoo as before - what does the iCloud mail do? Is it for those who didn't have an email account already or is it to sync between devices.

If I was to turn the mail off in the iCloud settings, the mailbox disappears, would the yahoo one still sync as before between devices?

Laymen terms please!

Thank you

The iCloud email account is just a free alternative account that comes with the cloud. There is no obligation to use it. In fact if you have an existing established account I would advise against it. You might at a later date move away from the apple platform. iCloud does not sync you other email accounts, they will function fine with email turned off in icloud settings. Hope that helps. Push notifications will still work with your other account.

Brilliant - thanks for your help Peter.
