Hi there. I am trying to set up ICS for my 360 to have a net connection. My current set up is a modem/router many many rooms away which my pc has a wireless connection to. My motherboard has an onboard network card so I have plugged a bit of cat5 into it & the other end into the 360. The problems come when I try to connect the two.

In my network connections I have:

1384 net adapter (connected, Firewalled)
Local Area Connection (disabled)
Local Area Connection 2 (this is the one the xbox is plugged into) (Limited or no connectivity, Firewalled)
Wireless adapter (Connected, Firewalled)

With all the settings left alone I have a net conn on my pc, but obviously nothing on the xbox. If I try to set up ICS on the wireless adapter I get the following message:

An error occured while ICS was being enabled.
ICS Cannot be enabled.
A LAN connection is already configured with the IP address that is required for automatic IP addressing.

& bumps me back to the folder.

If I set the LAC2 connection to use a set ip address (chose 192.168.0.50) then its status goes to connected, firewalled but I lose internet connectivity  and I still am unable to get ICS to function.

My router uses 192.168.0.1 so I changed that as well but still no joy.

I very briefly had ICS up for about 10 mins or so & the xbox got assigned its own network ip but then the net connection went as it failed on the DNS & having undone everything I cannot get it back. Any ideas? They would be gratefully recieved :D pulling my hair out here.

Will take a look at bridging later & get back to you. Not made a bridged connection before so will need to have a read up on exactly what needs to be done.

Cheers.

Ok I have tried bridging the connections but still no joy.

Results as follows:

Bridging wireless network connection & LAC2 = I lose internet access & the xbox fails to obtain an ip.

Bridging 1394 connection & LAC2 = Internet access kept but still the xbox cannot get an ip.

Bridging all 3 = loss of internet access & still no ip.

Any ideas? Didn't think it would be this difficult when I started out :p

Which two should I be trying to bridge (I thought it would be the one I did first)?

All Bridging & ICS gone.

1394 disabled.

Local Area Connection (disabled) = Marvell Yukon 88E8053 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller

Local Area Connection 2 (Limited or no connectivity, Firewalled 888 now is Connected & firewalled) = Marvell Yukon 88E8052 PCI-E ASF

Positive it is plugged into number 2. When the cable is removed that is reported on screen. I have no idea where number 1 is as I can see no port on the mobo.

From Router Status screen:
LAN Port
MAC Address <hidden>
IP Address 192.168.0.1
DHCP On
IP Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0

Info from cmd:

C:\Documents and Settings\Adam>ipconfig /all

As soon as I bridge the wireless adapter I lose my net conn

If I didn't suspect you were a dude I would kiss you. That has got me far far further than ever before. :D It has connected & my pc net conn has remained intact as well. I went for ICS rather than bridging, is that the way to go or is bridging for some reason better?

However, the next problem appears to be connecting to Xbox Live (which is sadly kinda the point :p)

On the xbox the network test shows the IP address, CNS, MTU & ICMP all as confirmed but the Xbox live fails & the more info box is empty.

Any ideas? Might a firewall be blocking that maybe, if so I have virtually no idea how to configure the firewall on my router or the windows one so would definitely once more need you help.

But would my switch not have had to have been connected to my router which already has a switch?

As for the firewall(s) I use them as I use a wireless connection so am trying to add a little bit of extra security to that connection so I would have thought them kinda handy?

My pc is normally on so ICS if I can get it working wont be an issue. I also wanted to test out the connection I would get on the xbox without spending anything as if it is like my pc for gaming as I suspect it will be it will make proper gaming unviable for the time being.

My router has a switch. My router is miles away. I cannot plug my pc into it so likewise cannot plug the xbox in either. If I could believe me I wouldn't be going through all this hassle :D

Of your steps 1-5 I have 2-4 covered. But I occasionally find myself being linked to random sites...

I have turned off the windows firewall (was just there as an extra to the hardware one which I think is better???) and still get the Xbox live failure so I guess it wont be that.

The router firewall is set to allow always outbound & block always inbound so I have tried configuring it following this guide: http://www.philgilbert.co.uk/2007/12/03/xbox-live-setup-for-netgear-dg834g/ but when I try entering the xp ip of 192.168.0.x I am told it is an invalid ip now. Leaving it as the ip for my pc which is now on the .1 domain still gives me a failure connecting.

as for the router firewall, you could always turn it off for 5 mins whilst you try it. if it doesnt make any difference your barking up the wrong tree. i assume you know how to enter the config as you changed its ip address. :) post back with the results of the firewall test.

I would turn it off briefly if I could see how but so far i can only see the way to set rules not turn it on & off.

edit - Added a rule to allow all incoming stuff (which having checked seems to be the only way) - same problem. New ideas please :D

erm, you need to add 3 rules,

Had only done 2  putting one as UDP/TCP Doh.

Having changed that around I tried again & it finally connected & detcected an update \0/ it then disconnected a couple of times but it just downloaded it so I think I am up & running. In fact yes I am :D

Cheers for the help all in this thread especially $c8t@ (who may wanna edit his last couple of posts to remove the partial swearing before the don's get the ban hammer out).
