I have tried and failed all night long to connect my old HP compaq desktop pc running XP pro and Ubuntu (see below) 12.04 to my everyday pc running 32 bit Vista home premium.
The Vista PC is connected to the (SKY) router using a wireless connection.
I have connected the old (guest) PC to my Vista PC (host) using an ethernet cable (cat 6 I think) to try to get internet access but every time I tell it to share I lose all connectivity and lose the internet connection.
I can't get the old pc to connect to the newer pc at all.
It just appear as an unidentified network.

Can anyone offer some advice.
I'm sure that I'm to blame but that doesn't mean it's any less annoying.

( FYI - I have just installed Ubuntu on the old pc and can't get it to boot...I've tried holding the left shift key and other suggestions to bring up the GRUB screen but windows loads up every time so I was going to try to connect to the internet to download / update through the software store.
TBH Im not really that bothered apart from it has now become a challenge ).
