How do I set up ICS on Cable Broadband? I've gone through setting up a new connection etc but can't seem to do it.
My brother wants to get on Xbox Live so I want to know if this is possible?

What hardware have you got and how is it set up?

You can have a router coming off the cable modem that allows each device to connect independently, or you can have a crossover cable coming from your PC and going itno the xbox.

The disadvantage of using a crossover cable is that the PC will have to be turned on to transfer the signal.

Oh and make sure its a crossover cable too, not just a standard ethernet one, as that wont work.

No he doesn't want to buy a router. I suggested that first off.
Telewest modem is connected to the PC via USB, so there is a ethernet port on the back of the modem spare to connect to the Xbox. Obviously with there only being one IP assigned to the modem he can't just plug an ethernet cable into his xbox and expect to have access to Live. That why I wanted to set up ICS but I'm stuck as how this is done? I've never seen it done on a cable broadband connection before?

I've been told that you need two NIC's in the PC to do this for Cable Broadband. One connected to the Modem and the other connected to the Xbox via crossover cable.
Can someone please clarify this? Surely someone on here knows how this is done on Cable?

Yup the Crossover cable will be needed to share a 2nd Connection comming out the 2nd NIC on your Motherboard.

I done this years ago when I networked two computers together. The only problem with this is, that you will need the 1st computer on to share the connection, which can be a pain tbh. I really think getting a reasonably cheap router would be a better option.

Quoted for truth

does he know that every time he wants to use Xbox 360 he's going to have to switch the PC on ?

its why everybody uses routers cos its a pta turning the PC on when you only want to use something else

If he doesn't want to buy a router... Build a Freesco box! I've been using one the last couple months as a replacement to my Netgear router and it is far superior. If you've got enough components to build a really low spec pc then you can use Freesco, it'll run on a 486 with about 8mb RAM! Just hook that up to a switch and away you go. They're really easy to set up, I had mine up and running in an hour or so, not knowing what I was doing and making a mess up of it at the start.
