Hi,

I have 1 laptop and 1 desktop, I currently plug a rj45 cable from laptop into the network card on the desktop to share the internet connection.

I can send files using MSN messenger on the laptop

However when I want someone to connect to my laptop using remote assitance or whatever , or even want them to connect to my network when I am gaming nobody can connect to the laptop.

I understand the laptop has the same IP addy as the desktop.

However do I need a router so ppl can connect to my network when gaming on the laptop or when using remote assitance on the laptop?

Please help

Thanks

I hope I am being clear

It's possible under ICS but for the life of me I can't remember how (don't use Windows much anymore). In a nutshell you have a net facing IP and an internal IP for the laptop. People will connect to the net facing IP which is on the desktop. There should be a way somewhere in ICS to do port forwarding or NAT (network address translation).

But to be honest, in this day and age, routers are so cheap you'd be better off getting one and connecting both machines to it.
