iD software bought out

Hope it turns out positive for all concerned, including us gamers. I.D.software are one of the few developers that I know of where I have confidence to buy their latest AAA title without the need for a demo first.

Like Doom 3, huh?

You may not have liked Doom3 and to a degree I was a little disappointed myself but, for me, imo, i.d.software create solid, well put together titles. The engine or technical achievement with Doom3 is where the real credit lies. Great engine. Personally I have no preference in game terms with either Doom3 or Half Life 2. Both engines are great and important achievements and the games themselves were pretty good. I.D.'s games are so stable, something that no other developer I can think of has managed to achieve, even Valve, as great as they are. Audio stutter anyone? ;)

Doom 3 wasn't the game I was hoping for, I was dissapointed by it in that regard - but it wasn't so bad either more importantly it reset the bar graphically.

Yep, the first few hours were so atmospheric for me (I had to actually turn it off because I couldn't handle it at one point:o)
Though later, as I'm sure most people will agree; you'd walk into a room and generally know that an imp would spawn in front and/or behind you. Graphically it was rather impressive. The sound and lighting was superb but all in all many people like myself, were expecting more run and gun play where you didn't need to empty half a magazine in to an enemy before it dropped. I think the realism of the environment was good but I would have preferred a greater percentage of surreal settings like the original and more importantly (fingers crossed for Doom4) that there will be more open and wider spaces when journeying through the world, not so tight and narrow as before, too claustrophobic.

Just because HL2 didnt try and scare you every 20 seconds doesnt mean it didnt have any atmosphere. HL2 relied more on decent level design and proper storytelling, not taking the lazy direction by chucking PDA's about and hiding monsters behind every corner, which soon got repetitive.

doom 3 lol, good graphics dont make a game, the design was so linear and lazy. speaking of doing nothing this game defines it.
