^ An interesting read indeed

I think PC Gamer had it right when they reviewed Crysis this month, that FPS games will from now on be looked at from 2 points of view, pre-Crysis and post-Crysis.

Even Megatexture in the screenshots in the link do not look as good as Crysis IMO!

Damn you Crysis! you've ruined every other FPS game!

Typical PC-Gamer crap if you ask me. It's not like it's the first time they've posted drivel - they manage to do it every month and charge people £5 for the priviledge of reading it!

Crysis isn't really *that* special - it's been overhyped and coded in a way so that it runs poorly on new graphics cards, probably so you'll think the graphics are too advanced for today's cards.

The SP demo, yes...not the full game.

Anyway even though the demo runs poor on high settings people are having more fun in the demo than any other demo released recently especially after the unlocked content in demofunmap #5- this is a fact.

I think the word megatexture is a bit misleading... When I read the title it sounded like super-high-res textures (or something), but reading the article it actually seems to be about preventing textures from looking like they've been tiled . And they don't in the screenshot.

It's more to do with having an environment on one big "mega" texture than anything else, sure it may look like it's been tiled but it uses less memory and performs better than tile based terrain - well from what I translated from the Carmack interviews anyway.
