ID this game

Should be an easy one, but just been discussing good RTS games at work and I can't remember the name of this one.

It was very similar to age of empires but it had visible borders that moved as you took over parts of the map - kinda like Civ, but this was a RTS

You started with stone age type units and ended up with bombers and tanks.

I'm sure it was 'Age of...' something.

Any help!? :)

But being serious is it Age of Wonders?

Edit I didnt read the OP neither fail lol..it cant be wonders its fantasy based

Sounds like Rise of Nations.

There was another series as well that I can't quite remember the name of. Definitely had atleast 2 games. I played both of them but can't remember now.
 
rise of nations did that too didnt it ?
have borders and start off with spear men then end up with tanks.
