Hi, any help with this is very much appreciated. I'm currently at that point where I feel like a complete idiot.

I need to know what bulb I need to purchase to get my outside light working. It has never worked since I moved in here, but it is time to sort this out as I have a new puppy and having better visibility in the back garden would be ideal with it being dark so early at night.

I took off the cover to find there was no bulb at all. So that's why it doesn't work..... Here are terrible pictures of the holder front and back to help -

"PLH4" - H4 means something to me (cars), done some searching on PLH4 doesn't seem to relate to anything closely related to this?

As above, any advice much appreciated. Thank you in advance

I would get a new fitting if I was you that's corroded and broken! As above It is either a b22 or b15 bayonet cap hard to gauge size in the picture

I agree the fitting looks in very poor condition.

Op,

Why not swap it for something like this:

Will give you far better lighting out the back, it will only turn on when it detects movement, and is easier to direct so you aren't lighting up the sky. I have 3 of these around my house now.

Thanks guys for the help.

Yeah I know it is not in great shape and I ideally will replace it, but as it stands I have no idea if power is even getting to it. So a bulb was a test and a quick fix until I sort out something properly.

I am terrible with electrics, re-wiring a plug is my limit so I am just trying to keep within my capabilities as well haha.

Agree more I look at it, bayonet seems so obvious now. You can even see what way it twists to lock in. I think it looking offset in the picture threw me off.

If I just measure the diameter then I just go for 15 or 22mm based on that? I'll be sure to buy from a DIY type place to get a bulb more suited to outdoors for now and I'll sort out a better more practical light once I know that works and it gives me light out back in the mean time.
