IDE cables info ?

Hi All i want some help regarding my p.c I want to know if the IDE cable for the hard drive is the same as the one used on the IDE dvd Writer ? they look the same , just unsure ? thanks :confused:

As paulhuk2 says they are the same, at the risk of confusing you there did used to be a different standard for IDE cables but it hasn't mattered for at least 5 years, they are all identical now.

If they look the same, they probably are the same. I've still seen a few 40 wire IDE cables knocking around, but yes, most are 80wire. Even so, if a 40 wire cable is accidently used on a hard drive, generally the bios will issue a warning about it, and disable DMA modes 3,4,5 and 6. Leaving PIO and DMA1 and 2 available.
