IDE controller card problem

Hey guys,

I bought a PCI IDE controller with optional (supposedly) RAID, as my mobo only has 1 IDE port and I have several IDE drives. The plan was to run 2 hard drives from the mobo, and a DVD ROM from the controller card.

The problem is that any time I attach the DVD ROM to the card, it reads it as a RAID drive and tries to boot from it. My hard drives are set up in the BIOS with correct priority, but the controller card seems to be overriding it. On boot up you can hit F3 to configure RAID and sure enough the DVD drive is showing there. But there is no option to turn it off or ignore it.

Any ideas?

I've also considered getting a IDE-SATA adapter to run the DVD drive via a spare SATA port, but I don't know how this will perform speed-wise. Plus of course now I've bought this controller card, it would be nice to use it!

Any help greatly appreciated.

More fun and games.

I've just discovered that an IDE drive on the controller also stops the system booting. The card reports the drive as present but again, part of a RAID.

Gaaah!

check the documentation to see if there are any jumpers etc on the card that affect it taking priority.

in the mobo bios might be worth having a tinker with the 'boot other device' type option that there normally is.

failing that move your boot drive onto the controller card and the cdroms to the mobo ide headers?

Cheers for trying.

There's no boot other device option. The only options are for RAID settings.

The only thing the manual says about jumpers is J3 - primary IDE connector (blue), J5 - secondary IDE connector (white).

I've put the boot drive onto the card and changed the mainboard boot priority to SCSI as instructed in the card's manual. System just hangs up trying to boot.

Thing is, it's bringing everything to a halt. Even if I put an IDE drive on it by itself, it's going on bootup to the DVD drive which in it's mind is a RAID device.
