Ide ,sata or ahci

Hi I'm going to do a reinstall or xp .My current install has the the bios options set to sata mode ide and ahci rom disabled. For the new install i was wondering what are the pro's and cons or the other sata modes and the the enableing of achi bios rom .

ahci allows hot swap so you only need it if you use a HDD in a caddy. RAID mode is obvious but it also enables ahci. Some people insist that ahci/raid will give a slight advantage with NCQ but I've not noticed that.

In my system AHCI adds about 2 seconds to the boot-up time for each drive compared to IDE mode.
