Hi all,

I am limited in SATA ports on my media pc and have a spare HDD i want to add to the system, Would it affect my Bluray playback if i put the SATA Bluray drive on the IDE channel using an IDE to SATA cable?

Unfortunatly I already have a PCI-Express 2 port SATA card in my only 1 x PCI-E slot, So only have 2 PCI and 1 PCI-Express 16 left.

Maybe i will put the HDD on the IDE instead then as i am only using it for Backup?

They do sell Blu Ray Drives with the IDE interface.... So should be ok for playback? may strugle searching etc.....
But again for HD's with Blu Ray media on via the IDE....?

Maths anyone?
IDE can still hit up to 133Mb/ps (Chipset dependant)
Most is 66 -100Mb/ps so with Blu Ray Bit Rate being so high the throughput may need a bit longer to be cached before playback is seen.
May be worth checking an AV Forum first.

Either stick the Sata controller card in the 16x slot or use the hdd on the IDE as if it's only for storage, you won't notice much difference.

Personally if I already had the converter cable I wouldn't be bothered spending the extra 20 quid. Just put the HDD on the IDE. :)
