I want to get some data of a HDD, and want to use my old PC which hasnt got any SATA connectors on it, only IDE. Can you get a IDE to SATA connector of some sort?

u can get them off ebay i never got mine to work though :S maybe it was user error? but the seller wasnt helpful :S

How do these work, do you put your hdd in the caddie then connect the caddie to a USB port?

Does it fit into a of case, how do you power it?

Yep just put the HD inside the caddy and connect the cables up inside to the back of it (i.e. power + sata leads). You then just plug in the usb cable from it to any PC or Laptop. It is an external enclosure so you can leave it sat on top of the PC plugged in, for example.

Basically yes.

Power wise if its a 3.5" disk then the caddie will have a separate power brick which needs to be plugged into a socket to power it. If it's for a 2.5" disk then it can either have a power brick, or use 1 or 2 USB ports and draw power from them instead.

I thought hot swappable was so that you can have the HDD in a caddie inside you PC case and can just plug unplug while your PC is on.
