Ideal size TV for console gaming

13ft from 120" screen. 720p games still look great. When it comes to a large screen I find its how detailed and full a gameworld is that's important, not so much resolution. 1080p with aa/af from the PC does look better, though :)

over heard the wife talking to her mate and her mate was saying bigger is always better while the wife replied.. i know, but he's just got a small one.

i always thought our new 42" Tosh would be big enough, theres no satisfying some people ;)

For 16:9 screen and gaming forget all the THX recommendations for movies.

If you want the screen to feel bigger which is usually the case to enjoy it.
Id recommend a seating position approx 1.5x - 1.8 the screen "height" which will be close to 1:1 to the screen diagnol size. This is similar to a PC Monitor on a Desk and will fill your peripheral.

Examples:
24" monitor, sit approx 20"
42" Screen, sit approx 36"
50" Screen, sit approx 42"

Racing games is my thing but ive found it comfortable to sit as close as 65" to a 80" screen and as far back as 90" if not wanting full in face action but more relaxed viewing yet still that "oh big screen factor" By the way this is not living room approved but more for a games room.

Dont always go for size over quality though if choosing a TV.

I am about 6 feet away from my 32" TV in my back room which is pretty much used just for gaming and office stuff. For me it is pretty much perfect :)

I game on a 70inch T.V (HTPC) and sit roughly 8ft away.

I can't imagine using anything smaller now tbh. I think with screens you should always go as big as you can possibly afford and fit into your available space.

You always seem to get used to the increased size and regret not having gone bigger, not sure where I would go from a 70 inch sxrd however, anything bigger T.V wise would be very expensive! Eventually will probably go 1080p front projector with 80-100inch screen, quite happy with current setup at present though.

one of those task bars is captured (by photo) on my sony 16.4" laptop @ 1600x900, the other on a 50" panasonic 50pz80 @ 1080p. I'll let you decide which is which, because believe me they are both pin sharp.

Errrr, that's not the issue, that fact is viewed from a similar distance one of those task bars is going to be a lot larger, the actual pixels will also be larger, so that picture is a misrepresentation (depending on your viewing distance).

I have mine in my room, it's a 37" samsung series 6, I sit this far away (now got home theatre sound system installed, 5.1 = awsome gaming and films):

I also use it as a monitor, and sit at the desk, like james's picture, it's clear as anything running at 1920x1080. It's perfect, although, wanting to get a new 50"+ led samsung hehe. But that's rather expensive :(

I use my 22' HD monitor which I feel is just perfect. I don't sit far away from my monitor, so IMO anything bigger would be too much.
