Ideas about this mid-range gaming spec

Hi guys,

So I'm planning on building a new mid-range gaming computer next month.

I won't be hardcore gaming, due to work commitments - I miss those days where I could spend all day on WoW!

The main game I'll be playing is CS:GO, but I'd like to be able to play new games (e.g. Fallout 4) on relatively high settings. I'm also interested in having the potential to overclock in the future.

My budget is approximately £700 (excluding monitor, mouse and keyboard).
I'll be purchasing a gaming mouse and keyboard at a later date, along with a 144Hz monitor.

To stay within my budget I've decided to opt for a Z97 chipset with an Intel Haswell processor (socket LGA 1150), however this choice is open for discussion.

I've formulated a plan for the build, as follows:

Mobo: MSI Z97 Gaming 5
CPU: Intel Core i5 4690k

GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 960 2GB
RAM: Kingston Savage (2x8GB) DDR3-1866MHz (CAS 9)
HDD: Western Digital Blue 1TB

PSU: EVGA Supernova G2 650W
Case: Aerocool Xpredator X3 (Red/Black)
Case fans: 2x Corsair Air Series AF120

I think I'm settled on the Aerocool Xpredator X3 case, because lets face it - it looks badass and features a side-case window, which I'm after. I also want to include two 120/140mm red LED fans in the side case for added sexiness.

I was extremely keen on the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo heatsink at first, but after checking dimensions I think it'll be a very tight fit in this case with two side-case fans. Therefore I've had to compromise and search for an alternative, smaller CPU cooler.

I'd appreciate any feedback on this build and look forward to hearing your views.

Many thanks in advance!

uh oh, I'd remove the competitor links if I were you :)

So here's my proposition; bundle CPU+mobo, 8GB RAM is more than enough for gaming, USB version of Windows, 4GB GPU and a different case but hey it's still sexy and includes 2 red fans init. Obviously it's gone slightly over your budget but that's understandable considering your calculation didn't include OS and case price.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £818.52
(includes shipping: £14.70)

Looks a little light on the GPU if the end game is to play FO4 on high settings. I would be aiming for 970/390 minimum, also think that it would be a bit more balanced with the rest of the system considering it is a gaming rig
