Ideas for a two XBox setup? What kind of system link options?

Hey,

I currently have a white XBox 360 connected to my Panasonic 42" plasma and 5.1 surround sound kit.

Soon I will get an XBox 360S 250Gb and Kinect to take its place - and the white 360 will be moved to my 22" 1080p LCD monitor with a pair of Turtle Beach headphones, which is only a few feet away.

I will use the plasma/5.1 kit setup as my main unit, for Kinect and adventurous games; whereas the 22"/headphones setup will be purely for Battlefield Bad Company 2 and shooters.

When my 360-owning friends visit, they can just bring their game and sign-in details to play BFBC2 - and I will have two enclosed gaming environments, with neither person being interupted by the other's sound.

However, I'd like some other options for when other, non XBox owning friends are over..

It seems that without paying for a second Gold subscription I am somewhat limited. Even if I did pay for a second-hand copy of a game - I'd still not be able to do much with it.

Are there any ideas you have, such as having a second profile with Silver membership and getting a cheap download game like Perfect Dark? Even then it will be limited to two player though..

Any other ideas for what I can do with a two XBox system would be appreciated - thanks!

Actually, looking at this page it seems if I buy the family membership I get a rebate of $5 for each month of XBox Live remaining. I am about to pay £30-ish as a special offer for 12 months XBox Live, therefore I should expect a rebate of around $60 (35) - meaning I'm over half-way to the £70 already.

I'll wait until I get setup and see how it goes, but (particularly if my sisters are interested in Kinect and get a third XBox) it would make sense to get family membership and keep two memberships for me (one for guests) and give the other two to my sisters.

LAN mode is called system link on the 360, it'll be on the back of the box in the 'green' text area, some boxes will call it coop so its best to check before hand if they mean splitscreen coop or system link coop. Also best not to be confused with coop in orange (or any text in orange) which means its via LIVE.

You don't need an online account to use system link, just plug a cat5 cable between the two boxes and away you go. One trend I've noticed though is that less and less games are allowing system link mode and are going for LIVE support only, which is annoying as I really only use my 360 for coop/local stuff and I don't get any value out of paying for gold.

My XBoxs will be both be connected to the switch in my room via ethernet cables. Will this do the job for system link?

It does annoy me that splitscreen mode is either not supported, or is an afterthought in so many games nowadays. Although I like playing with my friends online, it's great to play when they're over too. It looks like they're doing the same with system link?

I'll wait until it's all set up to decide, but it seems likely I'll get a familly pack - then perhaps a second-hand copy of Bad Company 2.

you need to remember its not about you its about how they can make the most money :p

this may not help but can you connect system link through your router so the wires wouldn't need to be switched around.
