Ideas for an upgrade...

Hi all,

I have a few questions really, mainly centred around upgrading my PC. I have recently started pulling in a bit of money, and would to upgrade my PC before it all disappears like normal.

I am currently running:

E6600
Asus P5B Deluxe
2 Gb Crucial Ballistix
8800GTS 320MB

My ideas for a possible upgrade were either upgrading the GTS to a more recent graphics card. I haven't looked into components much recently, so Im not sure what is top at the moment.

My other plan was to replace the motherboard with a more recent chipset (again Im not exactly sure on what to get) and possibly to upgrade the cpu to a q6600 or better.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
James

Plenty of power in your current CPU.
Just get 4850/4870 and buy another 2gb of memory( yes , even for 32bit ).
And maybe get a decent cooling like TT or TRUE if you aint got it yet... and dont forget a tube of MX-2.

Also if you don't have a good monitor yet you can consider 20" or 24" widescreen.

What's your budget? Upgrading the gpu will be the cheapest and easiest especially as the 4850/70 are priced well. Upgrading just the mobo wouldn't really do much if your just changing it by itself, of course it would be a good option if you plan on getting a x38/48 and having dual cards. The cpu is more complicated, what is your rig mainly used for?

You could get a 4850 and p45 board for about 200 quid. that would leave enough cash for a good cpu cooler (for maximum o'cing) and another 2gb of ram. That would be a nice jump for gaming. Although you may need a new copy of vista which could alter things a bit.

which games use over 2gb ram then ? sell the 8800 and get a 4850 a nice affordable upgrade.

Well none really! But 4gb seems to be the sweet spot for vista. I suppose if the op is only worried about fps in games a 4870 and not getting anymore ram would be more beneficial and cost roughly the same.
