I'm having trouble finding a car for myself, so far i've only looked at a Volkswagon Polo and a Peugot 306. Is there anything else out there for under £2000, preferebly less than a 1.4 litre.

Only in as much as a Polo is, but its your decision :)

The first time I had a ride in a Ka it was owned by a HUGE guy at our college. Looked a tiny bit daft but it didn't half corner well.

lol, this man speaks the truth. It is so light and nimble and can be fun to drive. Well, as much fun as you can have in a supermini under £2k. Also, "goes" quite a bit because its so light!

Ka is fine if you just plan to use it around town or on short journeys and can actually be quite good fun on roundabouts and the like, but having had one as a courtesy car I can say that it'd not be on my list if I did any length of driving on NSL or motorways. The engine is a let down really. Not sure why they didn't put one of the newer zetec units in - guess it was a cost cutting measure.

Tell ya what in the last couple of years i have lots of cars, 306 dturdo's,307's,Astra's, Mondeo ST24, bimmer 525,focus ST170 and my current beast the focus ST3, and i swear i have never had so much fun as i did in the little KA i had as a hire car, even got 109mph out of it on the MWAY! but that car just handled so well, it was so well balanced, point and squirt stylee :D

Id love to try the sport KA tbh.

Have you tried using autotrader? There are stacks of cars in that class, off the top of my head I can think of:

Ford Fiesta
Citroen Saxo
Peugeot 106
Suzuki Swift
Seat Ibiza
Fiat Punto
Vauxhall Corsa (horrible)
Vauxhal Astra (bigger and better)
Honda Civic
Rover 200
Nissan Micra
Renault Clio

And I'm sure I have missed loads of other possibilities.

Ford Fiesta's are a good choice too, Im looking around for one at the moment. Clios are nice but a bit pricey, and the one I test drove felt a bit cramped (Im a fairly big fella, had my knees wrapped around the steering wheel most of the time :)).

With Fiestas though, go for a 1.25. They are the newer Zetec engines, more reliable, economical (slightly) and actually more powerful than the 1.3 Endura engines. Also, most of the 1.25s come with air-conditioning :)

Thanks for the replies, yes i'm using autotrader, but cars that i've seen on there, my dad's unsure about. He's quite knowledgable so i'll take his opinion.

Ah but this is the inta-web, we know everything :D

I'm too lazy to look at your profile, but what do you want out of the car? Still at college so just a run-around or something to cruise on the motorway? First-time cars don't have to be small / pokey hatchbacks!
