Imagine the situation, we have a Company, a Company branded product, and the name of the actual product - and these need to be transfered to domains and their best ranking. (Think of it in terms of: Mars.com, Marsbar.com and chocolatebar.com)

www.company.com - the main website for the company, simple.

www.brandedproduct.com - currently a portal site for information about the product.

www.product.com - should this be a 301 redirect to the brandedproduct or should the brandedproduct redirect to this?

I imagine it would be easier to get www.product.com higher on search engines and no doubt more people will search for this initially, probably be more valuable, who knows, but would that make www.brandedproduct.com redundant?

Advice would be great. :)

If the product name is unique (which I assume it is, seeing as you've been able to register a TLD for it) then Google will pick up its inclusion in www.brandedproduct.com anyway. With some basic SEO it shouldn't take much to rank highly with this.

I'd go for brandedproduct.com and just use product.com as a quick go-to link (ie in printed marketing).

Probably a bit of a vague description in the first post actually I'll be more clear:

www.brandedproduct.com (unique name, easily remembered, 8 letters long, no one will initially search this though)
www.brandedproduct.co.uk (301 redirect .com)

www.product.co.uk (10 letters, will be searched)
www.products.co.uk (11 letters, will be searched)

One of the product domains will be 301'd to the other. Unsure as which to 301 now.

I understand you already understood that Russ, but do you think it's not really much use having the product domain, apart from advertising. Just thinking....
