Hello guys, I am planing on replacing a few things on my system as it is that time of year. I currently have a £180 budget. I was going to replace the motherboard as i am having issues with it. I mostly use my pc for watching videos and playing a few games. Any advice what i could upgrade? Im thinking about a new motherboard and processor.

My current setup:

Motherboard: P8Z68V-LX
Processor: Intel 2.8 Dual Core
PSU: 500W Corsair
Graphics: Radeon 6850 MSI Dual Fan
Case: Zalman Z11
HD: 100GB SSD Agility 3
Ram: Kingston 4GB 1600Mhz

Hi and welcome.

I would suggest trying to find a i5 2500K for your existing board, but if you thinks its dodgy then that might not help.

The GFX card is weak and Im sure is holding you back in modern games.

8Gb of RAM (if you have a suitable 64bit OS) also.

Dacads suggest is better and more cost effective, it is true that you could overclock the Pentium K on a Z97 board, but meh.

Is your RAM 2x2GB or 1x4GB?

My ram is 2x 2GB and its Kingston im pretty sure its also HyperX but looks like it aint on overclockers no more so cant post a link.

Yea its Kingstone HyperX 2x 2GB DDR3 KHX1600C9D3X2K2/4GX

Only reason im thinking to replace the motherboard is because a while ago i would get clock speed errors on bootup and some random lock ups but i think that had to do with dust as since i dusted the pc out it has been fine. Also a couple of years ago i replaced the bios chip as i blew it and also my G930 volume increases when i connect a usb device. Apart from that it works fine.

Well if you can source a used 2500K/3570K then that would be smart upgrade and releases money for a GFX card.

That extra RAM stick should work along side your existing kit, only if you have a 64bit OS that can address that much memory.

For what i use my pc for the graphics card aint to bad but i do wish i went for a nividia card. If i was to get a decent Nividia card which one would you recomend on a 500W PSU.

As i could get the graphics card in 4/5 months time for now i will just get a mobo and processor. would i have to replace the PSU or is the 500W fine for the time being. Also would a better processor help my current graphics a little more as i was told it was bottle necked even tho the card aint that great.

Yea its a CX500. And thanks i will do that then get the Motherboard and Processor and grab a graphics card in a few months time.

I might just get a i5 processor and 8GB of ram as everything else in my system is working fine. Would i notice a big diffrence coming from a 2.8 dual core to a i5 3.5 quad core and a extra 4GB ram? I cant seem to find any 1155 processors on OC or have they stoped selling.

After a lot of looking around im wondering if i should just get this processor and ram.

Intel Sandybridge i5-2500 Core i5 Quad-Core Processor (3.30GHz, 6MB Cache, Socket 1155)

HyperX FURY Series 8GB (2x 4GB) DDR3 1600MHz

and in a few months time upgrade the graphics card.
