Ok so this is my usual set up

guitar-boss gt8-spdif input audigy platinum ex soundcard-ableton live record.

Now I have a probelm that my soundcard is broke..In fact they keep breaking they are old. And hard to find on ebay or costly somewhat.

well anyway not many soundcards have a digitial spdif input which is what I use to record my electric guitar via effects amp.

so, any suggestions on something to record very good quality?

I also like the creative surround mixer which gives you option to record many things such as

''what u can hear''...basically all music on pc, web, media player, guitar et....at same time.

or single components only eg microphone, spdif input etc...

I dotn know if any other software does this?

I notice the asus sonar or something like that which is 100 quid has digital input but i dotn know if the software is good like creatvie and gives you same options such as ''what you hear'' to record.

Line 6 stuff is pretty good, POD Farm is rather useful.

Don't use computer sound cards for recording music. They're not so good. Use purpose built sound cards.

On a budget, I'd recommend an M-Audio Fast Track. You can mic your amp up or go direct with the line in.

Also had something simialr o the pod but i felt that there was a delay when using usb soundcards.

When I record digital i hear and record the sound at same time.
When I was recording via usb devices there was a delay between the recordign and me hearign it on the pc.

Even if I play a long to backing track it was like the backing track would play and my guitar would play 1-2 seconds late.

Is this normal with usb devices or mines was crap. It was a zoom thing?

I bought an m-audio fast track but didnt like, cant remember why? or I bought m-aduio soundcard mayeb not fast track??? it so sent it back.

Sounds like you didn't have the ASIO driver installed. ASIO would reduce the latency vastly and keep the quality of the sound.

I have a PodXT, which I'm just using in an effects loop. When I did use it for recording I had no issue. Just use the POD ASIO. I am now using the Fast track pro, and works well for me. I have no issues with it whatsoever.

If you don't like M-Audio, try Presonus/Roland or others.

I love Presonus Firestudio, but that's a little pricey.
