Ideas needed for getting dog upstairs!

Area above stairs is a hallway. Enough room for winch or something.

And yeah, I guess if he really doesn't want to budge there isn't much we can do. We certainly won't force him up. But some sort of lift/ramp/barrow he can just sit on would be ideal.

Dont forget the process of getting him down the stairs again. It would probably be less easy.

Modify a set of those 6-wheel sack trucks, that help climb stairs? We have a shopping trolley like this, much easier to get upstairs from our ground floor front door.

I know what these maisonettes are like, they only have a small entrance and a cupboard downstairs, its cold and cramped. has the dog been carried upstairs since? is he ok once he's up?

Maybe you just need to force him upstairs a few times and build his confidence about using the stairs again.

Exactly. No not since he suddenly refused to go up. My dad can't carry him that well and when he tried the dog snapped at him. He seems ok down there with his blanket etc and is still happy to go out for walks. But it's far from ideal and feels really odd in the eve as he's usually on sofa!

I think it will be worth trying every day to coax him up with food etc and my dad is attempting it. Currently though he seems pretty decided about his new home.

If he doesn't want to go upstairs, he doesn't want to go upstairs. He's likely got vision or balance issues due to the stroke, or even something more strange going on in there. Make sure the area is well lit, go up a few steps first with treats etc. It might be a long process, but do not force him and reward every step (literally) in the right direction.

Pretty much ruling most ideas out now. Sack barrow would be too heavy to pull up with the dog on. And we can't find a suitable winch for sale anywhere. They only pull. We'd need one to handle going downstairs too really.

Looked on eBay etc. Don't see anything. Seems like a pretty impossible challenge sadly. Bit worrying as winter creeping in. It'll be cold down there!
