Hey all!. Right i purchased a system a couple of years back but the time has come when i need to start thinking about my options.
First off, the current system is as follows: -
AMD Athlon 64 939 3500 Newcastle Core.
Gigabyte GA-K8NSNSXP-939 Motherboard
1GB Corsair XMS DDR500 (yes thats right, DDR1 on a 500MHz clock - of absolutly no use i know
) Dual Channel
Geforce 6600 (not GT etc just the 6600) - AGP
80GB SATA
550W Tagan PSU.
17" LG TFT
Right now i have a few questions but im completely open to ideas and suggestions also. I am a student so upgrade budget is damn well tight, but justify the cost to me and il consider the upgrade.
First off, im a casual gamer, but mainly i watch films / listen to music. Currently in WOW im notching a steady 40 fps 1280*1024 With the settings to almost lowest, and about 35fps average in css
I recently found out that with a bios flash of my motherboard (now complete) the board will support Athlon 64 X2s. Would an upgrade to say the 4200 X2 make much of a performance increase over the the 3500?
If this isnt really worth the upgrade, can anyone recommend something more appropriate. My motherboard is AGP, now the next logical conclusion would be a graphics card upgrade - what would be the most cost effective upgrade to the system in the form of a graphics card?
Would sticking with the AGP system even be wise, if i were to upgrade it now id want at least another year out of it and reasonable performance.
All views and options i would welcome. Many thanks, Ian.
