just got an oled
and already worrying about burn in

so yes thought i would try animated wallpaper
anyone using that?
and got any feedback on it?

i also autohide taskbar
but hiding and showing desktop icons was annoying as takes a few clicks
every time
so i made a macro which takes 1 click
and sits on taskbar though guess i could use
a keyboard shortcut to launch it too

edit
just discovered chrome extensions that hide
the vertical scrollbar too

A little program to hide the mouse cursor after a select amount of seconds is something I've been using for a while now.

I use the "AutoHideMouseCursor_x64_Portable.zip for 64-Bit (x64) Windows".

I just use it like I normally would, after my 1st OLED display got 0 burn in after 9 months of my usage, I knew I was good with this tech going forward. I do have pixel shifting always turned on at least as a preventative measure for my TV (and the cleaning for the Alienware when I turn it off) as long as you have something like that doubt you'll have an issue.

Yeah I have the built in oled care features
Turned on

My original plan was keep the 27 inch mini led
So I could use the oled just for games, videos etc
And the mini led for static content stuff
But turns out if I move one out the way then bring the
Other one in on dual monitor arm
I can never get them to exactly the position I want
And it's been driving me crazy
So decided to get rid of the 2 x 27 instead

And that led to me wondering what else I could think of
To extend the oleds lifetime Via windows or software tweaks
Yes msi have 3 year burn in warranty
But like dell I feel the small print may say only 1 replacement
In your warranty period for burn in
And since it wasn't a cheap item I expect to be using it
For more than the 3 years

Edit
The msi oled is a total PITA to move around
On a monitor arm
Basically the sides and top the glass goes to the edge
No plastic bezel to get hold of to move it
The plastic is literally 2mm thick except bottom bezel
Means everytime I move it there's fingerprints all over it

All I do is use dark theme on Windows and auto hide taskbar, I have pixel shift turned on and don't worry about anything else, coming up to a years usage with 0 burn in and it's on for 4 - 5 hours in a evening and up to 12 hours a day at weekends.

I do the 1 click auto hide icon shortcut with a plain black background. I guess the animated one makes sense if you want a wallpaper. I use dark mode reader extensions when web browsing and try to have dark mode on in apps whenever possible.

I use a 48" oled TV and have brightness profiles set up and just toggle as needed. I was super worried about burn in too back in 2020 but either it's not that big of a deal or this all helps.

Yeah forgot to say
Am using dark mode

Dave28 interesting point
Will have to look at that once the pc is on
Does make me wonder though
If the black wallpaper would mean a more defined
Edge of stuff which may be worse long term

Shortcut to show/hide icons? What is this black magic?!

I suppose it depends how long you spend on the desktop, typically I'm not sat there long before launching a game or other full screen application. Which does beg the question why I bother use a black background with hidden taskbar I suppose.

I used macro recorder from jbit
It allows saving your macro as an exe file
You can drag and drop exe files onto taskbar
Which creates a one click link to execute them
It executes and has options to change playback speed too
Setting speed to max it plays the macro
But a lost faster than when you recorded it
The exe plays without having to open the software
Got the software free at some point

Not sure which other free macro software has same
Capabilities but bound to be one

Edit
Jitbit macro recorder not jbit
Spellchecker error

I'm on my 2nd OLED and use a mostly black desktop with a centred image that is hidden whenever I have the browser open. I hove some icons on the desktop but again they are lined up just to the left of the image and are hidden by the browser when open.

I do use the dark theme plus TranslucentTB which hides and ghosts the taskbar. Probably a bit OTT but my almost 2 year old OLED doesn't show any signs of burn in.

Given the cost of the oleds
I don't feel it's OTT
To do things above and beyond the built in
Oled care features

Plus it's interesting to find new things
Like 1 click show/hide desktop icons for example
Or the auto hide mouse cursor mentioned
By dicehunter etc
